Human Resources and Business Managers have a cycle of business practices they are responsible for on a regular basis. Their responsibilities are often tied to the calendar, with due dates and deadlines that vary.

If you enjoy working inside, you are people focused and you have a passion to help others succeed and thrive, Human Resources is a pathway for you. If you enjoy work spaces that require precision planning, attention to detail and analytical thinking, Business Management is a pathway to support, sustain and grow businesses. In my small farm environment, the scale of our business allows me to combine both job responsibilities. In larger businesses, these roles are categorized separately, as Accounting/Book Keeping and Human Resources.


What are some things Human Resources and Business Administrators might do?

This career pathway is focused on the vitality of people to help reinforce the vitality of the business/farm. A career in Human Resources and Business Administration helps farms recruit and retain employees, oversees employee benefit and compensation packages, worker protection standards and farm safety.​ This person is responsible for payroll, taxes, and insurance policies. This career is directly tied to the business budget, cash flow and the financial success of the business/farm. Accounts receivable and payables or billing cycles and budgeting are a critical part of the Business Manager’s responsibility. Agri-Business managers are also responsible for Auto Fleet/Equipment and Property Management maintenance and repair.

What skills are needed?

Strong communication skills, organizational awareness, emotional intelligence training and an understanding for workflow is required. ​ This career path builds teams, creates a positive, safe and thriving work environment, sets and communicates goals, solves problems, and motivates employees to achieve their potential. This career path helps the business make informed decisions using the data collection and analysis provided by the HR or Business Manager.

What education is required?

A High School diploma, Associates or Bachelor degree in Business Administration/Management or an Accounting Career Accelerator certificate is required.
